When Adam and Eve sinned, God said that Satan would try to destroy the seed of the woman but that the seed of the woman would destroy Satan.

Gen 3:15
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel." (NKJ)

Satan fully understood that one of Eve’s descendants would destroy him. Therefore, from that time, Satan has been on a search and destroy mission to identify and destroy that child. His first opportunity came with Cain and Abel. It was not that difficult to determine which of the two was most likely to align himself with God. Satan planted seeds of envy and hatred in Cain’s heart which resulted in the murder of Abel.

This did not deter the plan of God for Eve had another child by the name of Seth, and this is what the Bible says at the birth of Seth.

Gen 4:25
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, "For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed." (NKJ)

There is nothing that Satan can do to avoid the ultimate doom to which he has been appointed. God is sovereign over all of the circumstances of human history as well as all of the events that take place in the heavens. However, Satan never gives up his quest to defeat God and his perfect plan for the universe.

When the wise men came to worship Jesus at His birth, they asked King Herod, “Where is He Who is born King of the Jews?” Then Satan filled Herod’s heart with jealousy and fear, and Herod killed all of the children of Bethlehem who were under two years of age.

When Jesus ate His final Passover with the disciples, He told them that one of those who ate with them would betray Him. Then the Apostle John asked Jesus who it was, and Jesus said,

John 13:26-27
26 . . . "It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it." And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly." (NKJ)

Because Judas loved the things of this world, his hearts was open to the wiles of the devil. Satan lead Judas to the religious leaders who crucified the Lord Jesus.

However, not even the death of Jesus could stop the plan of God for after Jesus had been in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights, He came back from the dead. He conquered death, hell, and the grave once and for all, and He stripped all of Satan’s forces of their spiritual power.

Col 2:9-10, 15
9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power . . .
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. (NKJ)
